via Khmer Times, 13 September 2023: Cambodian officials have refuted Amnesty International’s allegations of forced evictions around the Angkor Archaeological Park, arguing that relocations were voluntary and politically unbiased.
According to the press release of APSARA Authority on September 12, 2023, in order not to be confused, APSARA Authority has confirmed that recently, APSARA Authority received a request for a Zoom interview from Amnesty International on the relocation of people to the Run Ta Ek natural area.
The APSARA Authority has requested that this organisation or its representatives meet with the APSARA Authority at its location in the Angkor and Run Ta Ek natural areas, rather than getting information from thousands of kilometres away from the real situation.
“It is unfortunate that the request of the APSARA Authority has not been approved by Amnesty International,” the source said.
