- Fully Funded Alphawood Scholarships Open for Southeast Asian Art Studies
SOAS University of London is now accepting applications for the Alphawood Scholarships for the 2025/26 academic year. These scholarships support students pursuing the SOAS-Alphawood Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art or the MA History of Art and Archaeology. The program aims to advance the understanding and preservation of ancient to pre-modern Buddhist and Hindu art and architecture in Southeast Asia. Scholarships cover full tuition fees, a maintenance allowance of £18,700 per annum, economy flights to and from the UK, and visa-related costs. The event, aimed at World Heritage site managers and archivists in Southeast Asia, will provide training on organizing, preserving, and utilizing archives for heritage site conservation. Topics will include case studies from sites like Cambodia’s Koh Ker, Indonesia’s Borobudur, and Thailand’s Ayutthaya. Led by experts from UNESCO and the Getty Conservation Institute, participants will develop tools for managing archival challenges and receive certification upon completion. These two-year postdoctoral fellowships, starting on 01 July 2025, include a stipend of $80,000, a research grant of $20,000/year, and full benefits. - Seminar on Sulu Sultanate’s Diplomacy and Trade in the 18th-19th CenturyAn online forum, Re-Imagining Sulu: Global and Local Connections, c. 1700-1900, will explore the Sulu sultanate’s diplomatic and economic relations. Scholars from Asia and Europe will examine how the sultanate engaged in international trade and diplomacy to expand its influence across Southeast Asia, including Mindanao, Palawan, and Borneo. The forum will also highlight Sulu’s relations with European, East, and Southeast Asian powers and discuss gaps in current historiography. - Heritage Documentation Training Grant Now Open for ApplicationsCyArk’s Heritage Documentation Training Grant offers free photogrammetry and digital heritage documentation training for 10 selected individuals. The program runs for three weeks, starting on 16 December 2024, and includes live virtual sessions, practical projects, and a certificate upon completion.
