ANA invites public to watch spring equinox sunrise at Angkor Wat

via Phnom Penh Post, 11 March 2023: The next equinox event where the sun will rise above the central tower of Angkor Wat will take place on March 21.

The Apsara National Authority(ANA) alerted the public about the upcomin Angkor Wat Spring Equinox event, which will occur on March 21.

“Equinox” simply means that the duration of day and night is equal and the sun rises exactly over the central peak of Angkor Wat, which can be seen from the western entrance and will occur on March 21 this year.

The alignment of Angkor Wat’s centre with the rising sun on the spring and fall equinoxes, as well as other factors, demonstrates the knowledge of astronomy and the advanced building techniques possessed by the Khmer Empire, according to historians.
