via Bangkok Post, 27 August 2020: Residents in Buriram are campaigning for the repatriated lintel taken from Prasat Nong Hong to be reinstalled in the temple ruins, rather than displayed in a museum.
Residents of Non Dindaeng district are calling for an 11th-century lintel being returned from the US to be re-installed in its rightful place in Prasat Nong Hong before being put in a museum.
Phongthep Konalo, the deputy district municipality mayor, said yesterday residents had campaigned for the lintel’s return for five years. They were overjoyed on hearing the lintel had been located and was now in the process of being sent back.
It is one of two lintels being returned from the US. The other was previously at the Prasat Khao Lon historical sanctuary in Sa Kaeo. Both lintels were displayed at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
