via Khmer Times, 16 June 2023: The Cambodian government and local historians urge the populace to remember June 15, 1962, the day Cambodia won sovereignty over the Preah Vihear temple at the International Court of Justice.
Professor Sambo Manara said yesterday that June 15, 1962 was a day of great achievement for all the people under the leadership of late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, who won the Preah Vihear case against the government of Thailand at the ICJ.
Cambodia had recovered the Preah Vihear temple from Thailand which was illegally occupied for around 100 years.
The ICJ verdict instructed all Thai military personnel to withdraw from the area after Cambodia won the case, Manara added.
