via Khmer Times, 08 July 2024: Cambodia celebrated the 16th anniversary of Preah Vihear Temple’s UNESCO World Heritage listing with a heritage run and tree planting event, drawing 880 participants, including 27 foreigners. The event aimed to promote heritage protection and environmental awareness. Prime Minister Hun Manet and King Norodom Sihamoni highlighted the significance of preserving Cambodia’s cultural heritage.
“This year marks the 16th anniversary of Preah Vihear temple’s inclusion as a World Heritage Site,” Puthikar said. “We engage the public in this celebration annually, and this year is particularly significant as the National Authority for Preah Vihear now manages both the Temple of Preah Vihear and the Koh Ker.”
He added that while Preah Vihear temple has been officially celebrated 15 times, this year’s event was more of a public celebration involving the local community and international visitors.
“We wanted to hold an official ceremony at Koh Ker this year, marking its first anniversary as a World Heritage Site, while Preah Vihear temple has already celebrated 15 years. This year’s event, including a heritage run, is aimed at inspiring a broader range of history enthusiasts,” he added.
