The government is preparing a revitalization plan for the Borobudur Temple Complex in Central Java by collaborating with other ministries and conservation experts from UNESCO, according to Deputy Minister II of State-Owned Enterprises Kartika Wirjoatmodjo.
“We are now discussing and consulting its conservation with the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry as well as conservation experts, including from UNESCO, to ensure (that Borobudur) will become a comprehensive tourism site that can maintain its heritage,” Wirjoatmodjo said at the Borobudur Temple Complex in Magelang on Sunday (June 4, 2023).
The development and management of the heritage tourism destination need a good conservation approach, he said, adding that his ministry will enhance the integration of tourism management and conservation aspects, including spiritual values.
