Since November 2022, the APSARA Authority has started the process of paving the sidewalk in front of Angkor Wat in order to reduce the erosion of rocks and control the flow of tourists to visit the temple.
Seng Sotheara, Director of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Development of the APSARA Authority, said that the main goal of the pavement at the Angkor Wat temple is to reduce the erosion of the temple stones and to control the flow of tourists appropriately, avoid walking on the grass and on the ground.
He added that the pavement project at Angkor Wat was implemented in three phases. The first phase, APSARA Authority received funding from GIZ under the auspices of UNESCO in Cambodia for paving a total length 476 meters and the process is about 60 percent completed.
