Groundbreaking for Beng Mealea Restoration Project

via Khmer Times, 21 July 2024: The Apsara National Authority is set to restore the eastern causeway of Beng Mealea Temple, with support from the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Fund. The project underscores Cambodia’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage, with international cooperation highlighting the temple’s significance within the Angkor site.

The acknowledgment by Lu Qizhi of the importance of Beng Mealea Temple as part of the Angkor site and its reflection of Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage highlights the significance of this restoration project. The collaboration under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Fund framework also emphasises the international support and cooperation for the protection of Cambodia’s cultural treasures.

The recognition of the year of people-to-people exchanges between China and Cambodia and the emphasis on mutual learning and cultural exchange further strengthens the significance of this restoration project as a symbol of bilateral cooperation and shared cultural heritage.
