Built in the early 12th century, the temple is shrouded in mystery and offers an untampered look due to fewer tourist visits. The site features intricate sandstone carvings, a blend of Hindu and Buddhist themes, and is surrounded by lush greenery.

The titanic temple complex is enclosed by a massive 1.2-kilometre by 900-metre moat, and is located about 67 kilometres northeast of Angkor Wat and Siem Reap city on the ancient royal highway to Preah Khan Kompong Svay.
