via The Star, 02 September 2023: Plans are underway to develop Gua Tambun, renowned for its prehistoric rock art from the Neolithic period, into an eco-tourism site in Ipoh. The Ipoh City Council aims to secure RM300,000 from the Perak government to improve access to the site and begin development by year-end. I know this site very well as it was the subject of my MA research, let’s see if the efforts to revitalise the site (again) works this time!

Ipoh mayor Rumaizi Baharin said Ipoh City Council (MBI) was seeking an allocation of about RM300,000 from Perak government to build a better road to the site.

He said MBI had just been given responsibility to manage the location and would now work to develop the area into an eco-tourism site.

“We expect works to start towards the end of this year, beginning with roadworks.

“Once the roadworks are completed, we will start developing the area,” he said after chairing the city council’s full board meeting.
