via Myanmar Times, 30 November 2020: The tourism industry readies for reopening in Bagan with health measures and an online ticketing system being set up. In a seperate story (linked below), officials announce the construction of a new viewing mound from which to enjoy the sunset.
Although there is no exact date yet when Bagan’s historic pagodas will reopen, preparations are being made at restaurants, hotels and tourist sites in line with
Ministry of Health and Sports regulations to be ready when officials give the go-ahead.
Officials visited the Bagan-Nyaung-U cultural heritage zone on November 21 and urged people to prepare for the reopening.
“We don’t know the reopening date. We are making preparations to be ready when it happens. The region relies on travellers, so we all expect to get normal jobs again if
the pagodas reopen. The officials inspected restaurants, hotels and food stalls,” said U Myint Tun, administrator of Nyaung-U district.
