    Tim Balai Arkeologi menjajaki Desa Mamuya, Pulau Halmahera, Maluku Utara (Malut) untuk meneliti/mengidentifikasi dan mendokumentasikan data arkeologi yang berasal dari tradisi megalitik yang terdapat di daerah tersebut.

    “Megalitik adalah tradisi pemujaan leluhur yang berkembang di Indonesia pada masa prasejarah yakni masa bercocok tanam dan tradisi ini ditandai dengan pembuatan monumen batu besar sebagai media upacara,” kata Peneliti Ahli Pertama Prasejarah, Balai Arkeologi Maluku, Marlyn Salhuteru di Ternate, Selasa (9/7).

    Menurut Marlyn, dalam perkembangannya, media tradisi megalitik bukan hanya batu berukuran besar, namun juga yang berukuran kecil. Bahkan ada yang terbuat dari bahan lain selain batu, asalkan memiliki latar belakang pemujaan leluhur dapat digolongkan sebagai objek megalitik.
