Tourism success has brought with it the need for security cameras to provide surveillance at 14 of the most famous heritage sites in Bagan and cut a growing petty crime rate.
Thatbyinnyu Pagoda’s board of trustees secretary, U Kyaw Swe, said the cameras were needed to increase security and prevent damage to important heritage sites.
There has also been an increase in petty crime and reports that tourists camp at historical sites to cut accommodation costs or the car transfer from town to the heritage zone at the crack of dawn.
