via CGTN, 19 September 2023: China has played a significant role in restoring Cambodia’s Angkor temples since 1993, with successful projects like Chau Say Tevoda and Ta Keo Temple, and ongoing work on the Royal Palace expected to be completed by 2030.
In 1993, China became one of the first countries to join the International Action for Safeguarding Angkor, launched by Cambodia and UNESCO.
The work officially started from Chau Say Tevoda back in 1998, by a joint team called the China-Cambodia Government Team for Safeguarding Angkor, or CCSA.
The temple is not large compared to other Angkor relics, but it was one of the most difficult to repair. Eight of the nine buildings were severely damaged by the time the operation was launched.
