via Daily News, 18 March 2022: Going plastic-free is a good idea which should be adopted by more tourism sites in Southeast Asia.
Sigiriya will be declared the first eco-friendly tourist destination in the country free of plastic and polythene this year, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.
He said the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Development Authority are working in collaboration with institutions such as the Central Cultural Fund and the Wildlife Department in the effort.
Minister Ranatunga who visited the Sigiriya Tourist Zone on Wednesday (16) further stated that the Government is also taking steps to expand the facilities required by local and foreign tourists visiting Sigiriya.
