via Khmer Times, 20 February 2024: The Jayavarman-Norodom Phnom Kulen National Park is on a transformative journey to become a leading green tourism destination, following Minister of Environment Eang Sophalleth’s recent visit. The park is gearing up for eco-tourism through strategic initiatives aligning with the government’s environmental strategies.
Spanning over vast expanses of land, the park’s evolution has been marked by the integration of various conservation initiatives. Initially established by a 1993 royal decree, its scope expanded significantly with the incorporation of the 25,383-hectare Northern Biodiversity Conservation Corridor in 2017.
Today, the park proudly boasts a total area of 62,883 hectares of protected land, showcasing the government’s commitment to preserving Cambodia’s natural heritage.
During his recent exploratory visits, Sophalleth delved into the untapped potential of eco-tourism and cultural heritage preservation within the park’s boundaries. His itinerary included crucial landmarks such as the “Sok An Phnom Kulen Orchid Research and Conservation Centre,” the Kingdom’s sole orchid research facility established five years ago.
