via Khmer Times, 19 June 2023: The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has registered 9,317 archaeological sites across Cambodia since 2007, including residential areas, temples, tombs, irrigation stations, and pottery kilns, with ongoing research and collaboration with national and international partners to locate and preserve more sites.
Speaking at a dissemination workshop on the findings of recent archeological researches on Wednesday in Phnom Penh, Voeun Vuthy, director of the department of archeology and prehistory, said that the archeology department has managed the registration of 9,317 archeological sites from 2007 to 2023, in collaboration with other departments and international partners.
The recorded sites included 3,734 residential areas, 2,099 foundations, 778 temples, 605 tombs, 1,981 irrigation stations, 72 smelting stations, 48 ancient pottery kilns and other 605 archeological sites.
Vuthy added that the technical team of his department has already set up 288 demarcation stations and 3,093 newly discovered archeological sites, besides 9,029 unregistered archeological sites.
