via SBS, 12 July 2022: Ties between the people in the lands of what we know as Australia and Indonesia today date as early as the 1700s, and possibly older.
Trade between the Macassan people of Indonesia and the Yolngu people of northern Australia can be traced back to at least the early 1700s, predating European settlement. An event held at the end of NAIDOC Week celebrated this special relationship between cultures.
