  • Last month I was at the Si Thep Historical Park in Phetchabun province - a less-known archaeological site, but an impressive one considering the ancient town has remnants dating from prehistoric times until the 13th century CE. Khao Klang Nok is a massive Buddhist stupa dating to the 8th or 9th centuries CE, located outside of the ancient town of Si Thep.   • Earlier this week there was a news article about a Thai archaeologist’s attempt to repatriate a statue that was reportedly looted from Buriram province and now on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. https://www.southeastasianarchaeology.com/2022/07/08/thai-archaeologist-on-mission-to-reclaim-ancient-khmer-sculpture-from-us/ This is the so-called Golden Boy, taken at the Met last December. The label calls it a Standing Shiva(?) and attributes it to the Cambodia, Siem Reap origin but it may be in fact a representation of Jayavarman Vi. King Sihamoni requests new addition to World Heritage list

via Khmer Times, 15 November 2021: The King of Cambodia requests the addition of the Khmer martial art bokator and Koh Ker into the Unesco World Heritage lists.

King Norodom Sihamoni requested UNESCO to include two more Cambodian heritages to the existing list of Intangible Cultural Heritage and the World Heritage site.

This is according to the Royal du Cambodge Facebook post on November 14.the Facebook post stated:

“On the occasion of King Sihamoni’s official visit to Paris, France, His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, King of the Kingdom of Cambodia, paid homage to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. His Majesty the King informed of the purpose of Cambodia in preparing the application for inclusionof Khmer traditional martial arts Bokator in the category of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Cambodia’s Koh Ker Archaeological in the World Heritage Sites with Audrey Azoulay, Director General of UNESCO on November 13.”
