Trong lịch sử, khu đền tháp này từng bị cướp phá trong chiến tranh, nên các tượng thờ từng phải nhiều lần làm lại.
Cụm đền tháp Po Nagar còn lưu giữ được khoảng 20 bia ký cổ, cả bằng chữ Phạn và chữ Champa cổ – là một trong số di tích lưu giữ được nhiều bia ký Champa cổ nhất ở miền Trung – nội dung được dịch từ những bia ký này đã phần nào giúp thế hệ sau biết được lịch sử của khu đền thờ.
