Join Lead Curator Dr Alexandra Green and Project Curator Dr Mizuho Ikeda as they give an introduction to Myanmar, present new research and explore approaches to decolonising museums and their collections.

Burma to Myanmar is the first exhibition to explore Myanmar’s multiple histories and different regions through a cross-cultural lens. Until independence from British colonial control in 1948, the country had never been a single political entity and, in addition to political diversity, it was (and remains) one of the most ethnically diverse regions of the world.

Given these complexities, the British Museum has explored Myanmar as a case study in curating and presenting diverse voices, heritage and memories without promoting the majority narrative. This workshop includes an introduction to the country, presentations of the latest research on the area by the authors of the exhibition book, followed by a panel discussion by leading experts on Myanmar.
