Devi Bhagvati: When ‘our’ Devi Bhagvati is assimilated as ‘their’ mother goddess in Southeast Asia

via The Economic Times, 16 July 2022: The goddess of Po Nagar in Nha Trang show an ancient connection between Indic religions and the Cham of Vietnam.

Devi Bhagavati, the shakti of Shiva, arrived on the distant shores of an erstwhile kingdom of Champa in Vietnam as part of ancient Asian cultural networks. She was assimilated within the prevailing local belief in mother goddess worship and her sanctuary was built by the Chams in Kauthara, now known as the Po Ina Nagar temple in the coastal city of Nha Trang in south-central Vietnam.
