via Nhan Dan, 09 April 2022: Elephant-shaped gold leaves from the Go Thanh site are recognised as a Vietnamese national treasure.
A ceremony was held in the Mekong River Delta Province of Tien Giang on April 8 to receive the Prime Minister’s decision on recognising the Go Thanh collection of elephant-shaped gold leaves, dating from the 6th-8th century, as a national treasure.
The Go Thanh collection of elephant-shaped gold leaves, which is preserved at Tien Giang Provincial Museum, is part of Oc Eo culture in the Mekong River Delta region.
The shapes of the elephants on the leaves are spread out in many directions, featuring their roles as the guardian deities of the light according to the Indian culture.
