Readers in Singapore may be interested in this talk by Prof. John Miksic on the archaeology of Singapore’s Chinatown.
Archaeologists have mainly focused their attention on the area northeast of the Singapore River. Most of the area southwest of the river (“Chinatown” and Tanjong Pagar) has been subject to so much recent development that it is difficult to imagine any locations where research might reveal undisturbed 19th-century remains. In this talk by eminent archaeologist, Dr John Miksic, discoveries from Duxton Hill and Pulau Saigon will be compared to other 19th-century remains found northeast of the Singapore River. Pre-registration is required.
