The authorities will permit a limited number of visitors to climb five pagodas in Bagan to view the sunrise and sunset starting in September, said U Aung Aung Kyaw, director of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum in Bagan.

Myanmar Times, 04 May 2017: Update on the construction of viewing towers in Bagan, which are meant to draw tourists away from viewing the sunset from the tops of pagodas.
Several new scenic spots are being developed in the vicinity of the Sulamani Pagoda in Bagan to accommodate the increasing number of tourists who want to catch sunsets and sunrises.

Budget constraints mean that only one of the five planned sunset viewing platform will be ready by September 1.
The ban on sunset viewing from ancient pagodas in Bagan in the coming tourist season is still uncertain, pending the completion of new viewing sites, a Mandalay Hluttaw representative said.
