The museum, which turns 120 next year, houses a wide range of artefacts from Indonesia including ancient sculpture and a large collection of ancient books. The museum is seeking to increase its funding from 197 million rupiah (USD20,000) to 300 million (USD31,000) in order to maintain its current collections.

Radya Pustaka Needs Rp 300 Million

Tempo Interaktif, 29 October 2009

Surakarta’s Radya Pustaka Museum requires Rp 300 million to cover operational costs in 2010. Hence, they have submitted a proposal to the Surakarta Culture and Tourism Office for this to be included in the Surakarta 2010 Regional Budget. “The number of visits to this museum is not as high as other tourist destinations,” Winarso Kalinggo, Radya Pustaka Museum’s Committee chief, told Tempo during the museum’s 119th anniversary celebration.
