Heritage Watch
Heritage Watch aims to address the problem of looting of artefacts and material culture from Cambodia, a problem which it says has reached “epic proportions”. To this end, they are launching a public awareness campaign as a starting point to delay further archaeological destruction. They also have an online petition set up, addressed to the governments of Singapore and Thailand, both of which are non-signatories to the 1970 UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. Most illicitly looted artefacts in the region are suspected to have passed through Singapore or Bangkok.
